This beautiful tree grew in a park that was built on top of a landfill. Just 6 feet down its roots are encountering decades old trash, quickly buried so that a redlined neighborhood in Greensboro North Carolina could have a park. . Years later the ground is constantly settling, causing unsafe divots and ditches throughout. There is a basketball “court” with a 3 foot dip in the center making it completely unsuitable for use. The baseball field now has shards of glass that have worked their way to the surface over the years. There is a creek that runs right alongside the landfill where children used to play in the toxic waters. . This park is just another example of a broken system that has normalized inequality. . I’m here this week helping produce a short documentary about how the health of residents in these communities has been negatively impacted long-term by redlining, underfunded infrastructure and other unjust policies that impact the quality of life in their neighborhoods. . I think this beautiful tree is a lot like the folks I’ve met in this community over the past few days- beautiful hope in an unexpected place. Despite the circumstances, the people here stand strong, holding to hope that if they work together for positive change that broken things can be fixed, and that it’s worth it to keep fighting for a better future. It’s an honor to have a part in telling stories like these and I truly hope the work we are doing here will help call attention to these important issues.

Visited Nashville two weeks ago for the first time on a last minute financially irresponsible weekend getaway with @lindsaygrip -We decided to go on Wednesday morning and we were there Saturday night! Not only had we never been to nashville, but neither of us had ever set foot in Tennessee! It ended up being an amazing trip- Nashville truly lived up to the hype and it’s a city where you can show up with basically no plan and still have an incredible time. Our minds were blown by the insane amount of musical talent on display everywhere we went along with great food and kind people. Absolutely loved our time there and hope to visit again sometime! .
